Ship-Thru Savings
For many years Chrysler, Ford and General Motors have provided ship-thru of select vehicles to approved upfitters and body companies. The ship-thru program allows a customer to order a vehicle and have it shipped thru an approved upfitter/body company. Once the upfit is completed at the body company, the vehicle re-enters the manufacturers transportation system and is shipped to the delivering dealer. There is an additional charge for this process that is based upon how far the vehicle needs to be shipped to the approved upfitter/body company. If the upfitter/body company is close to the assembly plant, the charge may only be a few dollars. If the vehicle needs to be shipped a considerable distance, the charge could be $200-$400 per vehicle.
Within the last few weeks, all three manufacturers released their 2009 MY Ship-Thru Charges. When we reviewed the amounts we noticed an interesting fact - Chrysler's Ship-Thru Charges for all approved vehicles is $0. An unusual development in a year where all we've seen is price increases.

Fleeting Tidbits
Firm 2009 MY pricing from the manufacturers continues to be slowly released. Some 2009 truck pricing may not be released until early September.
Ford announced that they will build the Lincoln MKT in the 2009 calendar year. The Ford Flex-based crossover will give Lincoln a seven-seat CUV to compete with the Acura MDX and the Audi Q7, while providing customers a more fuel efficient alternative to the Navigator. In addition to a fuel-efficient 3.7-litre normally aspirated V-6 engine, the Lincoln MKT also will offer an EcoBoost 3.5-litre V-6 engine that will deliver an estimated 340 horsepower and 340 lb.-ft. of torque.
